RAYS OF HOPE
GIFT OF EDUCATION
100% percent of the donations are dedicated and channeled to our scholarship programs in Nepal. Currently, the scholarship fund of close to US $5000.00 a year is provided to various schools in Nepal. The criteria for the scholarship require that the recipients maintain 75% passing grade in their studies. These selected students are currently enrolled at various Schools in Nepal. Profiles and interviews of the students will be carried out soon and communicated to all via our website. If you would like to help with this project, please contact email@example.com.
With the help from friends and well wishers, FONNJ has made an effort to make access to education easier for a certain number of Nepali children.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL
A Message from Anil Maharjan, Director of Finance and Technology:
On the surface, it appears that all students in Nepal have access to education. Nearly all of the villages and cities have education institutions. However, even free education has a cost to the students: both in financial and opportunity costs.
Students are required to purchase uniforms and, in some cases, their own books and supplies. Some students have to travel great distances to reach school. When a student is in school they are unable to help their household, whether that means tending to their livestock, store, or family.
The vision with our education foundation is to be able to provide students with the opportunity to go to school without having the financial burden be a factor. It is when children have the opportunity to learn that they also understand the importance of education. This understanding ultimately will be promulgated to the next generation.
Our focus especially will be on students in remote areas of the country and from traditionally underrepresented ethnic groups. We believe that the small amount of money that it takes to send a student to school in Nepal should not be the deciding factor in whether someone can get an education.
EDUCATION PROJECTS AND PARTNERS
ST. XAVIER SOCIAL SERVICE SCHOOL
A SCHOOL PROVIDING EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS FROM REMOTE VILLAGES WITH LEARNING AND PHYSICAL DISABILITIES
St. Xavier Social Service School is just a two minute walk from our family home in Patan, where it sits next to one of the most prestigious boys schools in Nepal, St. Xaviers. At this school, boys with physical and learning disabilities from remote parts of the country are given both an education and a new home. In many areas, there is still a great stigma when it comes to disabilities and the school provides them with opportunities that they likely would not receive otherwise. We have been supporting this school for many years and we hope that for many more years they will continue to inspire hope.
Our goal for Rays of Hope is to provide educational opportunities to those in need, regardless of class or ethnicity. When we shared this vision with Man Bahadur Budha, he immediately invited us to be a gathering of the Magar Society to launch the initiative (what made this event even more special was that the Vice President of Nepal was there!) The Magar’s are one of the oldest ethnic groups in Nepal and we are well established in their communities. We thank them for their continued help in fundraising for our project.
SHREE BAL KUMARI HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL
This school is one that has always been important to our family. During the political unrest in the early 2000s, Tulsi’s uncle, a leader in the community, was killed because of his political views. Following this, we established a scholarship foundation in his name, that now sends countless numbers of students to public schools. It is a project that started as a small idea that has grown beyond what we ever could have dreamed.
KATHMANDU NIGHT SCHOOL
THE ONLY SCHOOL IN KATHMANDU TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AT NIGHT FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND REGULARLY SCHEDULED CLASSES
Our continuing theme is to provide opportunity for those who may not be given opportunities otherwise. The Kathmandu Night School is a truly incredible place. Unlike many of the other schools that we have visited, there are people across all ages attending classes. These are kids who have to work for their families during the day and adults who were not able to attend school when they were younger. At 9 PM, they had more desire to learn after a long day than many students have on an average day.
